City of Colorado Springs Approves New Housing Development in 80920

The Colorado Springs City Council has green-lit a significant housing development project, paving the way for the construction of nearly 300 homes in the northern part of the city. According to Breeanna Jent's article in February 29th's issue of The Colorado Springs Gazette, roughly 60 acres near the intersection of Powers Blvd. and Old Ranch Road, previously earmarked as the Larry Ochs Sports Complex  was approved for residential development by a vote of 6-2. La Plata Communities, known for developing Pine Creek, Cordera, and The Farm, is behind the project.

Despite the enthusiasm for new housing options, the project, dubbed Ovation, has not been without its controversies. Local residents raised valid concerns regarding potential impacts on emergency evacuation routes and the capacity of local schools.
